Adrienne Santos-Longhurst

Yep, that’s me with my first typewriter, the best Christmas present I ever received. I used it to win my first poetry contest. By then, I had already been writing for a few years. Since I could hold a pencil from what I’ve been told.

Though I’ve upgraded my writing tools since then, my passion for bringing ideas to life with words hasn’t changed. I started working as a freelance writer more than 20 years ago. I am still in absolute awe that I get to do what I love every day.

My career as a freelance writer has been a colorful one thanks to opportunities to cover a diverse range of topics. While I can grasp pretty much any subject thrown my way, health and wellness topics are my specialty.

Why health and wellness? Because I, like millions of others, was a longtime patient of Dr. Google. When I had a symptom, I Googled. When a loved one had a symptom, I Googled. When my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I Googled like nobody’s business.

Accessing reliable health information was everything in that moment and there wasn’t enough of it. Weeding through the misinformation and trying to make sense of complex medical jargon was overwhelming and time-consuming. I wanted to do better.

I turned my focus to creating accessible, research-backed health information. It needed to be easy to understand and, most importantly, written with empathy. Making it engaging and not a total snooze fest was also important.

Now I write informative articles and features for health and lifestyle publications. I ghostwrite books and marketing materials for medical professionals and pharmaceutical businesses. Additionally, I offer copywriting services for healthcare brands.

When I’m not in my writing pod sipping (okay, chugging ) coffee and writing for business or for pleasure (hello two rom-com novels that I’ve been working on foreverrrr), you can find me exploring the town with my husband, snuggling with my dogs, or down at the beach.
